Welcome to Lancaster RC Youth Service Website
Summer Plans? Coming up soon is our Adventure Weekend for intrepid adventurers from Years 7-10 over the weekend of the 7-9 June. A weekend retreat with adventure activities (kayaking/raft building), campfires and lots of fun.
WYDFest

This summer is the World Youth Day event which is being held in Rio de Janeiro. Whilst we are not organising a group to join this event, we are organising our very own WYD Festival from 10-15 August 2013 which will follow the schedule of World Youth Day in Rio. Already a group of young people are busy preparing the programme which will include some fantastic speakers, workshops, prayer times, barbeques and outdoor activities. WYDFest will be a great celebration of our faith and we are hoping as many of you as possible will be able to come and join us. If you will be 16 and over, please click here for WYDFest Booking Form 2013. Closing date for applications is fast approaching!
Manor Makeover

As you may know, we are now entering into our fifty year anniversary of the Youth Service. In 1963 Lakeside House was purchased in Keswick as a residential youth centre. A few years later the centre moved up the hill to its present location at Castlerigg Manor. We hope over the course of the year there will
be times to celebrate. This landmark occasion is also a time to look to the future and to develop and refurbish the building so that we can squeeze another 50 years of life. We would love you to look over our proposals for the Manor Makeover. On Sunday 7 July, there will be a sponsored walk around Derwentwater, taking in Catbells – a distance of 10.5 miles. Many of the schools around the diocese are already getting involved and everyone is welcome. Details are here.
The Story

Pope Benedict has been speaking to young people this year and he has issued an inspiring letter to the young people of the world, calling all young people to be missionaries of joy. If you haven’t had a look at it already, click here and read up! Cymfed – the national youth ministry federation – have also produced an inspiring little book on youth ministry in the UK, Called to a Noble Adventure. This is an essential booklet for all those involved with youth ministry. There is also a new book just out called, ‘The Story’, an inspiring collection of fifty faith stories of young people from across the UK. The editor, Ruth Baker, writes, “I really encourage you to buy this book. Buy it for yourself, buy it for a youth group, buy it for a teen who feels alone in their faith. Read it to inform yourself of today’s young Church, read it to be encouraged by young people’s struggles, hopes and joys. Read it to rejoice in the Church in this Year of Faith!” It can be ordered through www.cymfed.org.uk
