Throughout my time here at Castlerigg Manor I have been to Lourdes (in France), Madrid, Dublin and Rome on different events and World Youth day to Germany Spain. It’s an amazing experience. Love every minute. If you have the chance to get involve...go for it!

MEET THE OTHER'S >>

Andy

Hi, my name is Andy and I’m 20 years old. I come from Hartlepool in the North East of England. This is my 3rd gap year in Youth Ministry, for my first year I was a team member at YMT in the Newcastle and Hexham diocese. For my second year I was a team member for DYC in Northern Ireland for the Derry diocese. I’m really looking forward to this year at Castlerigg and all the young people that I’ll meet this year. I really love sports, mainly football and mountain biking. There’s nothing better than being outdoors where there is so much to see and do. I was confirmed into the Catholic church when I was 18, I converted from atheism to Christianity when I was 16. I’m really looking forward for all the lake district has to offer, I’d really like to take up some water sports this year.

Alice

Hi, I’m Alice, I am 18 years old and I come from Barrow-in-Furness (or more specifically Walney Island) and I have just finished my A Levels and I have come to Castlerigg for a year before going to university to hopefully study Chemistry and Maths. I first came to Castlerigg on a school retreat in Year 10 and I fell in love with the manor, Keswick and the work that the team do here, I have been back many times since and I am so excited to be living and working here for the next year.

I love spending time with my friends and family at home, and I also enjoy reading books, and watching (too much) TV, usually on Netflix. I am a massive Harry Potter fan and I also love lots of other nerdy things. I love spending time outside particularly camping with my family and I look forward to walking more and enjoying living in The Lake District.

Paul

Hi I’m Paul. I’m 19 years old and I’m from Hannover in Germany. I have played handball since I was 9 and I really want to learn rugby here in Keswick. I love to watch football and support the team of Hannover 96. Before I came here I was organizing camps for young people with a team of people in my parish and we had a lot of other youth works there. I like to meet friends and go out and have fun with them. One of my passions is travelling and I do it as often I can. I have visited Great Britain many times and I love it very much. During my year in the UK I want to meet a lot of nice people and see a lot of the country and the Lake District. I also want to grow in my personality and in my faith. I look forward to meeting you at Castlerigg Manor.

Bridget

Hi everyone, my name is Bridget and I come from Lancaster. I am one of the retreat leaders at Castlerigg Manor, and I am now in my 4th year of working on the team here.

I enjoy being out walking in the hills around Keswick, spending time with friends and family, and drinking endless cups of tea. I also love travelling, and spent a year living in the USA, which was an amazing experience. There is a lot to see in all the different states. One of my dreams is to visit many more countries!

Looking forward to welcoming you to Castlerigg for your retreat.

Sr Shienrose

Hello Friends!

I’m Sr. Shienrose Agnes La Torre, SPC, a member of the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Paul of Chartres, Philippine Province.  I am a perpetually professed sister and blessed to be here in United Kingdom as my first mission country.

Beautiful people! Beautiful place! Beautiful nature! Beautiful God! were my first impressions as I started to know, feel, see, smell and touch the wonders of God in this place.

And now, to work in Castlerigg Manor is a pleasure! Happy to serve and love working with the youth.

Fr John

Hello, I’m Fr. John. I have been a priest for six years and before coming to Castlerigg in 2015 I served in parishes in Cleator Moor and Poulton-le-Fylde and worked as hospital chaplain at Blackpool Victoria hospital.

I was born and brought up in Preston, but have always held a great love for the Lake District fells and feel greatly blessed to be living in Keswick. I come from a large family and always enjoy spending time with them, although these days we’re quite spread out. I went to St. Cecilia’s High School in Longridge before going to university to study computer science. I still occasionally use these skills for work or just for fun, and also enjoy fell walking, learning the piano and guitar and working as a chaplain with Lancashire Army Cadets.

My first year at Castlerigg has been amazing: it is a privilege to work with so many wonderful young people and I look forward to welcoming you.

Aleksandra

Hi! My name is Alex and I’m a second year volunteer at Castlerigg. I still do miss my family and my dog, but this experience is so worth it!

I’m making wonderful friends, discovering I’m quite good with arts, climbing fells and taking photos, I’m getting more comfortable being myself. That includes proudly telling people I’m 20 years old, I do like wearing hats in the summer only, I’m obsessed with cartoons and vegan sweets.

I’m trying my best to share my love with people around. Every single morning I’m pushing myself to be that bit of sunshine in someone’s life, by bringing as much laughter as possible into the centre. And before going to the chapel to pray with my amazing co-volunteers, I wake up thanking God for directing me here!

Sarah

Hey, I’m Sarah. I’m 22 years old and originally come from Portsmouth in southern England. I came to Castlerigg after earning my degree at university in Wales, I loved my first year here at the manor so much that I am excited to stay for a second. I love sports especially rugby and wish Keswick had a ladies’ team! One of my aims this year is to spend more time participating in lake swimming and getting used to the cold water. I love reading and wish I had more time for it but give me anything historical and I will make time. I have caught the travelling bug and have a very long list of places to visit but I’ve only managed to cross off a few at the moment which is a shame. I can’t wait to meet all of you who are going to be visiting the manor this year, see you soon!
