For over forty years Castlerigg Manor has been welcoming groups of of young (and not so young) people into our home in Keswick. For some groups hospitality is enough and they stay with us for a walking weekend, family gathering, geography field trip and a myriad of other occasions. But at our heart we are a community of prayer dedicated to sharing our faith with the young people who come through our doors.

We provide an opportunity for young people to get away from their everyday lives, the pressures of home, school, exams, Facebook and Instagram. For a few days their focus becomes simply the people around them, community and prayer. Sometimes they have been in school together for five or even eleven years, and this is the first time they get to know each other!

A retreat at Castlerigg involves team building, reflection, games, prayer, arts and crafts, drama, walking, social time, and good food.

Most groups come from Monday to Friday or Friday to Sunday, but we welcome day groups, one night stays and longer trips.

Our facilities

Castlerigg Manor is grade II listed country house with a lot of character. In eighteen guest bedrooms we have space for 72 residents, with en-suite rooms for teachers and modern shared bathrooms for the other rooms. Several large reception rooms and breakout rooms comfortably accommodate large groups. Our games room offers activities for breaks with plenty of other spaces for relaxing around the house and extensive gardens. Our dining room encourages guests to spend time together over meals and all our food is freshly prepared on site from a menu chosen by your group.
