Earlier this year Fr John decided to take up a new challenge. He occasionally goes out for an afternoon run in the hills surrounding Castlerigg Manor, but this year he entered the Keswick Half Marathon, which, because of the hills on the route, advertises itself as “possibly the hardest 13 miles 192.5 yards you’ll ever do.” So on Sunday 30th April, he along with many others set out to complete this huge challenge!
He was supported by his family and the Castlerigg Team, who kept track of him online, and by parishioners from Keswick who were watching around the course. “It was a great experience,” he says, “running with nine-hundred others; the atmosphere was very supportive, and it was great to be cheered on along the course, especially on the hills. It was a challenge, but worthwhile.”
Fr John has raised over £500 in sponsorship for Castlerigg Manor. We are grateful to his family and friends, parishioners in Keswick and the local Catenians for their generosity. There is still a chance to donate to sponsor Fr John, just head to our website www.castleriggmanor.co.uk/donate.
Donations are an important part of our income at the Youth Service and the donations we receive help us to make Castlerigg Manor a welcoming place where young people encounter Christ and grow in faith. We are very grateful for every donation and keep our benefactors in our prayers. Please consider making a donation or including us in your will if you are able to, to ensure we can continue to offer this opportunity to young people.
Next year the Keswick half marathon will take place on the 6th May – are you up to the challenge?
