Father John

Father John

Hi, I’m Fr. John. I have been a priest since 2010, and before coming to Castlerigg in 2015 I served in parishes in Cleator Moor and Poulton-le-Fylde and worked as hospital chaplain at Blackpool Victoria hospital.

I was born and brought up in Preston, but have always had a great love for the Lake District fells and feel greatly blessed to be living in Keswick. I come from a large family and always enjoy spending time with them, although these days we’re quite spread out. I went to St. Cecilia’s High School in Longridge before going to university to study computer science. I still occasionally use these skills for work or just for fun, and also enjoy fell walking (and recently qualified as a Mountain Leader), climbing, learning the piano and guitar and working as a chaplain with Lancashire Army Cadets.

My years at Castlerigg have so far been amazing: it is a privilege to work with so many wonderful young people and I look forward to welcoming you.

Sister Shienrose

Hello Friends!

I’m Sister Shienrose Agnes, of the Sisters of St Paul of Chartres congregation originally from the Philippines.  It’s my fourth year now here in the United Kingdom working at Castlerigg Manor Youth Centre of the Diocese of Lancaster.

“HERE I AM” an answer that implies my total availability, capability of adaptation and selfless love to bring Jesus to others and whose mission we continue.

I thank the Lord of the mission for sharing with me His love to reflect on to other’s hearts in this mission.

Love working with you young people!

Hello, my name is Patricia, I come from Fleetwood near Blackpool.
I have an amazing large family and I love them so much- Mum and Dad, I have 3 brothers, 2 sisters, lots of little nephews and nieces. All my family mean a lot to me and also extended family around the Diocese.
I went to Cardinal Allen High school and after school I went and studied child care at Blackpool Fylde College and British Sign Language, I am currently studying at Uni. I enjoy spending time at the beach and in the mountains with family and friends.
I love all music, I love being creative drawing and painting. I came to Castlerigg Manor when I was younger on family holidays but also with school it has made a big impact in my life. It’s a great place! I really enjoy working here, and getting to know people, it has helped me grow in confidence and recognise who I am. Throughout my time here at Castlerigg Manor I have been to Lourdes (in France), Madrid, Dublin and Rome on different events and World Youth day to Germany & Spain. It’s an amazing experience. Love every minute. If you have the chance to get involved...go for it!

Hello my name’s Alex and I’m from Essex. I’m a retreat leader here at Castlerigg manor, before I worked as a volunteer at Walsingham house in Brentwood diocese. I’m currently studying at Maryvale institute doing youth ministry and school chaplaincy before hopefully completing a full theology degree. I love sport and I’m a keen swimmer and martial artist competing competitively in nationals and internationals, I love the mountains and try to spend as much time climbing or walking as possible. I’m also very creative and tend to build DIY projects in my spare time. I have ambitions of either being a teacher or an officer in the Army, but for now I’m very happy here leading retreats!

Hello! My name is Ruben, I am from Hungary and I’m turning 20 this year. This is my second year of volunteering at Castlerigg Manor and I must say I really enjoy working with young people.

In my free time I like drawing or any creative activity, doing some sports (Mainly rowing & gymnastics but I like most sports) and traveling to different countries as well. I’m a big metal and rock fan, but I wouldn’t reject any other styles so we can share our thoughts about it or about anything else to be honest, I like a good conversation.

Hope you will enjoy your retreat here and that I can help you to have a brilliant Castlerigg experience!

Rebecca

Hi! My name is Rebecca, I’m 21 and from Harrogate in North Yorkshire. I graduated from Exeter University in Summer, where I studied Theology and Religion. I am now doing a gap year at Castlerigg, because I wanted to put what I have learnt about my faith into action.

I have had lots of opportunity to expand upon my knowledge of Christianity at Uni, but I loved being part of Cathsoc in Exeter. Now I have the chance to live in a Catholic community and grow in faith spiritually. Part of my year here will also involve an overseas trip, volunteering with CAFOD, and raising awareness of their aims whilst in Keswick too. I am extremely excited for this aspect because I admire CAFOD’s work, aiming to achieve global justice in our common home through helping people and the environment.

I will love the creative parts of Castlerigg retreats as well as the reflective times. Over summer I did a lot of arts and crafts with a disability camp in America and was reminded of how much fun it can be!! Before that, I was in a couple of choirs and bands at Uni, and did Drama A-Level, so was always involved in plays at school! I love singing in Mass as a community and being with friends and family. Being with others and working on something in a team is more enjoyable for me than independent work so this year will benefit me in lots of ways. I really value time spent in individual quiet reflection as well though, and love to think things through. In these moments I find it easiest to pray, seeing it as time spent with God.

My family and I used to come to Keswick on holiday, and I loved walking round the Lake District and trying new activities, so I will love being outside whilst I am here too. I cannot wait to see how my relationship with God grows over the year and hope that the next few months will be fun, challenging and inspiring.

In my spare time I enjoy spending time socialising with friends and family and often go walking. I have been coming to Castlerigg for about 4 years and although I have always been brought up in a religious family, it wasn't until my first visit to Castlerigg when I was 14 that I properly discovered my faith. I look forward to the year ahead and to meeting lots of new people including yourselves!
