Hi! My name is Rebecca, I’m 21 and from Harrogate in North Yorkshire. I graduated from Exeter University in Summer, where I studied Theology and Religion. I am now doing a gap year at Castlerigg, because I wanted to put what I have learnt about my faith into action.

I have had lots of opportunity to expand upon my knowledge of Christianity at Uni, but I loved being part of Cathsoc in Exeter. Now I have the chance to live in a Catholic community and grow in faith spiritually. Part of my year here will also involve an overseas trip, volunteering with CAFOD, and raising awareness of their aims whilst in Keswick too. I am extremely excited for this aspect because I admire CAFOD’s work, aiming to achieve global justice in our common home through helping people and the environment.

I will love the creative parts of Castlerigg retreats as well as the reflective times. Over summer I did a lot of arts and crafts with a disability camp in America and was reminded of how much fun it can be!! Before that, I was in a couple of choirs and bands at Uni, and did Drama A-Level, so was always involved in plays at school! I love singing in Mass as a community and being with friends and family. Being with others and working on something in a team is more enjoyable for me than independent work so this year will benefit me in lots of ways. I really value time spent in individual quiet reflection as well though, and love to think things through. In these moments I find it easiest to pray, seeing it as time spent with God.

My family and I used to come to Keswick on holiday, and I loved walking round the Lake District and trying new activities, so I will love being outside whilst I am here too. I cannot wait to see how my relationship with God grows over the year and hope that the next few months will be fun, challenging and inspiring.
